Unknown Families2021-2022
The series consists of four separate parts. They are parallel and complement each other. So far, I have discovered a side of my family that was previously unknown to me. I have depicted the living conditions of rural families, their hopelessness, and parent-child relationships. Part of the project depicts family relationships in the middle of the last century. The main part of the project is a series of archival photographs of two families facing each other. The archival photos were taken at the same place and time. They are the visual diaries of two families from the 1950s and 60s in Hódmezővásárhely and the surrounding area. We have background information on one of the families, but for the other, we only have the image of an outside observer, which gives us a picture of the family relationships. The social differences between the two series are not visible to an outside observer, only to the families whose interviews are related to the material. The other main element is the depiction of children's injuries, emotions, and the abuse they suffered in archival photographs.
